Herzlich willkommen

Hello!

I've been reading a lot about the 6 to 8 speed conversion but I havent been finding much info of this type of conversion on US based forums. Most of the ones here will cause you not to have a PTO option if you want it.

The pics here are great and you all have made the process very clear. The only write up I found, in German which is what brought me here, made a larger cut-out in the sliding plate:

vs the much simpler cuts you all have done:

It looks like the leaving 1/2 of the arc on the right side would hinder movement on that side of the switching lane. Is that not the case? As far as this side of the shift plate is concerned, this still allows for this shifting pattern?

This topic has also shown me something we don't see in the US, those springs. CAN you explain the benefits of them? Are they there to help make the shifting easier from the low to high gears?

Thanks!!

Hello,

when shifting from slot 1/2 to slot 3/4 the group is automatially shifted. If you separate this task, you get two groups.

off-road : with 1,2,3new,4new,
road : with 3,4,5,6

A standard shift plate has 3 slots (1/2, 3/4 5/6). To adress all eight possible stages you have to chose one system.

a) group shift an two slots
b) eight slots (1/2, 3n/4n, 3/4, 5/6)

For a separate group shift you need an extra lever.
a) existung PTO lever is noe dedicated to group shift (no PTO possible)
b) need a new lever
c) add a new option to an existing lever

Various designs are possible, some are more complex.

Regards
Markus
