Dear community,
Hello from Serbia. I am off road enthusiastic and fun of Steyr-Daimler-Puch off road vehicles.
Right now I am owner of two Pinzgauers 710MS and 710K and one Puch GD300 GDN3-2 (ex Austrian army vehicle).
I am thinking that my next project could be an Unimog. My first wish would be small-size Unimog 407 or 408, alternatively mid-size 424/427 (U1000 U1200) or 417 (U900).
Anyhow, the market of second-hand Unimogs In Serbia is poor, so I have very limited choices.
I have found one U408 but Agrar version. There is 3/6 speed gearbox version (the 4/8th gear is blocked).
Using MB-EPC application, I have tried to find difference between this U408 Agrar and "normal" U408 truck, expecting that Agar version has "slower" gear ratios making them more suitable for agriculture tasks.
On my surprise (if I am not wrong), the Unimog 408 Agrar I am looking right now has faster gear-ration in differential 24:7 compare to the specification of "normal" U408 which has 27:7!?
To make this story about U408 short:
1. Does this particular U408 Agrar has same gear ratios as normal U408 truck version?
2. If I decide to purchase this particular U408 could it be modified to make it faster than Agriculture version (e.g.to have cruise speed cca 70 km/h)? I suppose that 4/8th speed is mechanically blocked and it can be unblocked. What about other transsmision components? Is it only matter of unblocking the 4/8 gear in gearbox UG 2/30?
Needles to say that any other advice is more then welcome!
VIN of U408 I am looking right now: WDB4081001W179525
VIN of the “normal” Unimog I used for comparation (found on net): WDB4081011W191476 (this one is U90 Turbo)
Purpose of the Unimog would be off-road and camping in the mountains.
Here are some clips about our activities:
Thank you for help!
