Hello form Patras, Greece.
Sorry for speaking English but i dodnt know any German :(
I amcurently restoring my 411.113 and i had aproblem when i went to buy gear oil.
i dont have the manual, but from searching the net i found that a W90 gear oil is the suited.
But there are a couple of different W90 aveliable (LSD, GL4, GL5 etc)
What is the correct for the 411?

Also what is the best fluid for the hydraulic actuated differentials?

Thanks in advance, Antony.

Hello Antony,

the shifting gear needs GL4 (not attacking Copper nor Brass!), the differentials and wheel reducers need GL5 (Hypoid).

Hope this information helps. If not, please come back again.

Hi Antony,

for the shift gear i confirm Christophs statement, I use anormal SAE 80 W GL4 oil (Brand Luiqi Moly).
But for the differentials and gears in the wheels i also use the same oil, the old axles on the 411.113 has no hypoid gears, so there is also no need of a GL 5 oil.

Hello Antony,

Jürgen is right. I've got a 411.119 with hypoid gears on the axles and haven't realised that your's is a 411.113.

The user manual reads SAE 20, for Greece (warmer) maybe SAE30, which means also any mineral hydraulic oil like HLPD 32 or even a simple standard engine oil like 15 W 40. Ideally choose the same fluid as it is used in the hydraulic circuits of what you attach to the Unimog.

Answering your question from above
Also what is the best fluid for the hydraulic actuated differentials?
ATF (Automatic Transmission Fluid) is recommended. It is a synthetic mostly red coloured fluid.

guude,

GL4 tells nothing about attacking Copper ore not. you can find it out only by asking the manufacturer ore test it by yourslef.
one of the oils that are tested in 411 and 404 gearboxes and axles with best results is the Spirax MX 80W90.

gut mog! justus.
