Ha, just in this moment I got 404 entries in my unimog-community account !!! HURA!!!
So Now I will present our technical faults, damages and all the stuff which we have to repair:
We started with two spare tyres, we took both at home !
And luckily with a lot of spareparts from ULLI and RAIMON
THANKS FOR THAT GUYS ! You are great...
I will start:
First our driver wiper Motor broke down, it was on the way to the north of denmark, it was raining a lot, both wipers were on, suddenly thze driver motor started to makes some rippel noises ( I could hear that some seconds during driving!!!)
And than it stopps...
Hm, I checked that, but we were very late in time, so I drove the last 60km without wipers in the rain, that was shit.
I repair it at the campside of Faroyar Islands, it takes some hours to understand what was the reason, the center of the Motor was not centered anymore, so the magnet was not holding the stator, When I fixed that ( not so easy to bend the magnet to its position ) I suddenly makes a firework inside the UNIMOG, the wiper motor was on, I hold that in my hand, lay it down on the console in front of me ( speedmeter, oil temp and so on) That was a bad error, the motor housing is under 24V + the oil temp meter is minus, so that was a BIg but SHORT firework.
And now I have a small hole in my oil pressure meter !
Fortunately I bough years ago some fuses in a set, the TORPEDO fuses, a 8A fuse blown up, I had 2 in my set...
The motor workes fine, the rubber for shutting the wiper from outside to inside was dead, so I did not install any rubber between the Motor inside and the metal outside below the window. The motor works, the wiper was ok, so I thought everything is well.
In Iceland we had good wether, so we never use our wipers again, when we had to use them, it was only possible to use the driver wiper, when I started the second, the fuse trip out again. Shit, the second fuse was gone... Than I only use my wiper or stopping my to wipe Annas wiper...
Then suddenly the weather was a little bit colder, I started my heater, together with my wiper... the fuse blow up again, so I installed 16A and bought some fuses at fuelstation 5A. We damaged some 5A after blow up of number 16A ! Then I tried to understand what happend, First I interchange both wiper motors, the driver to the other side (luckily they are the same)
And if I did that, I saw the problem, the driver motor was not connected correctly there is a white and a brown cable, I didnt change that during my first repair, BUT there was the rubber ok, the rubber was isolating from Unimog earth ! On the other side, the wiper motor was connected otherwise, since I changed the connection, we never got any problem with fuses, or the wiper itselfe. I could use all together, the heater fan, and both wipers with a original 8A fuse!
That was the first storry.
The second:
We passes a bigger river, we drove away, suddenly there was a sheep on the track following the street, never thinking abou to give me the way, so I wanted to use my horn...
but my horn was only making click ( the relay) I stopped and opend the hood. I look inside, but there was NO HORN !!!
"Anna, our HORN is away !"
but then I saw it hanging on one cable under the MOg. We have a Firetruck Unimog, so we had a second horn, but it was the horn which makes the higher tone, very gay sound ! But it was workable. The horn which broke down was on a 3mm thick steel plate, I think it cut off during shaking all the time ! I will take a picture of that metallcut!
I repair the horn in Landmannalaugar, they were the only persons who had a drilling mashine, but without a workable battery...
So they started their generator to load the battery. That takes a few hours, nevermind, because Anna was hiking with some friends we met for several hours. I took on my BLAUMANN - ( working clothes) and check the UNIMOG, use some grease, check everything and so on, and I was allowed to take their repair shop.
A lot of tourists ( these which were guided with a Highland bus
)
are whispering, "schau mal, die haben hier sogar einen Hausmeister" without knowing that Im not, and that I understud every word...
So I drilled a hole in the broken steel, and install the second horn there, after that we have now the ultra sound of the bi horns together...
That was the secdond storry.
Then during driving, suddenly crack, the direction meter directly behind the steeringwheel broke off.. never mind, it was allready deadjusted...
Two batteries of my multimedia and multifunctional electronic stuff inside the container of the Unimog brakes down, I selected the defective ones and deinstall them...
Now the real problems.
After 5 days, we got wrong ignition pulses, during driving down without gas or less gas, the motor was rumbeling, pammmtarammpammpammm
wrong ignitions from the exhaust.
During standby rotation the motor stopps. Only giving gas was able not to die the motor.
We drove to Akureyri to go to mercedes, after checking all ignition cables, cleaning sparkplugs. They found out a damaged ignition break contact, we allready installed a new one before our trip at Mercedes Benz !
THe repair cost 35000ISK for approx. 4 Hours.
But we install the contactless one now...
This problems repeated when we meet the UNIMOGS, fortunately they had their mecanic with them, he repaired the Unimog is 20 seconds. There must be a leakage of air from the VERGASER (english: ?)
The mog was so nice after that training specialist repair !!! great, without paying anything.
Then we got these problems again after 3 days!
I took a new ignition cup (Verteilerkappe) from ULLI, sorry Ulli, I didnt tell you that up to now... I replaced one sparkplug, and two cables.
Then again the problems - I found a cracked realy cracked ignition distributor ( Verteilerfinger)
Luckily I bought two spares of them...
I will take pictures of that , until now, they are still in the Unimog in a box...
BTW: I measured a resistance in the distributors, why there is a resistor in it ???
I think that were all damages...
So I have to learn the ignition !!!
The tires are now SCHROTTREIF ! damaged, that means I need complete 4 new wheels! Shit!
The right wheels are worst, the profile is near zero now! unbelivable!
Ah, and the brakes must be adjusted or replaced now! The handbreake is to be pull a lot if you wish to breake! And the breakes are making noises Quieetsch if I use them...
